The Philanthropy of Michigan Businessman Changing Lives in His Community

The re-known Richard Marvin DeVos Jr, famously known as Dick DeVos is an entrepreneur-businessman. Ranked by Forbes magazine in 2012 as the 67th richest in the United States accumulating a worth of upto $5.1billion.

DeVos states that the most important thing is to make a difference and follow through your commitments. This gives me the impression of what and how he gets to do the great things he has done. Full of humility and hard work.

With the heart of giving, together with his wife, they donated, back in 2013, $7.1 million through their family foundation, according to a recent article in MLive.

Past three decades, the Grand Valley State University have received $36million from the philanthropist family. I think this is more of a blessing to themselves as well as to the souls receiving. We are told in the Bible (for those who are believers and of Christian faith) that the hand that gives, receive.

A question that I would always ask myself is why and how DeVos gives away? Not only giving away, but giving away billions. From West Michigan, the wealthy social clout is not based on the type of car on drives or the designer clothes you wear but more from how much you give. The DeVos family originates from the West Michigan society and thus follows trend in being rich through the heart of giving.

I am incredibly grateful to my parents for initiating and encouraging by example the tradition of philanthropy within our family. We are happy to be a part of this great community!

I am even more encouraged, motivated and more so, moves by the net worth as far as donating and giving is concerned for this particular name, the DeVos, with a philanthropist nature, the family, has in total given $1.2billion. Dick DeVos is one of the children of Richard DeVos and the whole family has a total of 5 foundations that work closely together. The father, and four of his children and their spouses each have a foundation. Their giving strategic and is based on:

1. Providing strategic advice to institutions receiving money.
2. Leveraging additional donations through per pressure or organized giving among family foundation
3. Extending influence.
I think that this family does good and enhances society in a very positive way and being rich for them is more of a gift and they are using it in the most appropriate way one would ever imagine.
