OSI Group Continues To Grow Under David McDonald’s Guidance

David McDonald started at OSI Group over 3 decades ago. The Iowa native begin fresh out of college in a support position. Now he has moved up to company COO.OSI Group has humble beginnings. The company was formed in Chicago in 1909 by German immigrant Otto Kolschowsky. Starting off as a neighborhood meat market, the family business grew into one of the largest meat manufacturing plants in the U.S. The company also formed an early agreement with the McDonald’s Corporation, which made them both into powerhouses.

David McDonald grew up on an Iowa farm. After graduating from high school, he attended Iowa State University. He was an outstanding student who graduated with a degree in animal science. Today, he still works Iowa State University’s Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative.He is also a supporter of the school’s Alpha Gamma Rho internship for students who are interested in internships. He has also won numerous awards including the 2004 Iowa State Young Alumni Award and the 2014 Emerging Philanthropist Award.David McDonald has played a huge role in OSI Group’s expansion over the years. Not only has the company had extensive expansion in China, but it has also acquired Dutch Food Company Baho Foods.

McDonald is an expert in logistics and food production. He has worked with a number of government agencies, local suppliers, retailers and international suppliers.He says the partners understand the business culture from a geographical perspective. David McDonald says he is proud to know that his past, just like OSI Group’s, is intertwined in the Midwest. Another thing that is crucial to OSI’s success is the strong bond the company had with McDonald Restaurant owner Ray Kroc.The company was growing tremendously when McDonald was brought on board 30 years ago. “The goal is to continue to grow and deliver to customers,” said McDonald. “Our vision will never change.”
