The Artist

Hi there! I hope you had a wonderful week last week. I must admit that I quite enjoyed my quiet time. I am, by nature, an introvert and sometimes need a bit of time alone with my thoughts. I just finished taking Life in the Fishbowl, an e-course from Marisa of Creative Thursday about life as an artist online and I was left with much to think about. I spent some time last week thinking about two things specifically as a result of the course: 1. What does your business look like as a success? and 2. How can I make my blog feel like I'm inviting my readers into my living room? The first question is one that I will likely be thinking about for a while, but I wanted to share with you what I've decided regarding my blog. When I started this blog and my business, I dared not call myself an artist. An artist was something that others were, something you needed to go to school for. I am completely self-taught and was for most of my life a scientist and mathematician, definitely not an artist. Over time though as my business has grown and people I meet ask me what I do, I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am, indeed, an artist. I think the reason I have devoted so much of this space to the work of others is because I was afraid to share both more of my work and more of myself. But I'm planning to share more of both here from now on. I will still share the work of others at times, but I need this space to be more fun, more me, and definitely less scheduled. I may even dust off my old teacher hat and add some tutorials or podcasts here. And sometimes, I may choose to be quiet and I hope you will come back and share all of it with me.

I am so excited for you. I know what you mean about calling yourself an artist. My spinning group (yarn, not exercise) has had the artist discussion. What is art? when do you become an artist? Why is xyz an artist and not you, not me? It seemed to boil down to talent, and talent is something other people have... Congratulations on being wise enough to claim it for yourself.
I am personally looking forward to the tutorials... Hope i don't have to wait too long..

I've always considered you an artist and love all of your work! I'm excited to see what's in store for your blog. :-)
Congratulations Sam on calling yourself an artist, because you are indeed! I can identify with so much of what you have said since I too am also an introvert by nature, self-taught, and have yet to feel comfortable calling myself an artist. I look forward to reading your upcoming posts and learning learning more about you and your work. :)
Isn't it wonderful what the inspiration of the fishbowl has allowed us to see in ourself and others? Truely a life changing experience - I wish you all the best on your next part of the journey - we will all enjoy following as you go! x
Congratulations Sam, on finding a new direction for your blog and your creative self! Looking forward to seeing your new blog grew and take shape!
Looking forward to seeing more of your work here! Your work is beautiful. I look forward to seeing what more is in store.
I am so excited to learn more about YOU! I love your work AND your blog.
Very inspiring post...as I also took Marisa's class before. I'm still reeling with thoughts and taking it one step at a time. Sometimes I feel like I'm so behind...but it's never too late to start! Looking forward to seeing more of your posts... :P
I've shared many of your internal struggles, as a self-taught artist, too. I celebrate this new chapter for your blog and am really looking forward to more of YOU!
