Link:lore (Birdcage Cards)
Kate, from Birdcage Cards, is one of my twitter friends, always there with kind word about my work...or my chocolate cravings. One day I popped over to look at her shop, and instantly fell for her lovely screen printed cards and tags. Enjoy!

1. Why did you decide to open an online shop?
Starting to sell online and on Etsy was really the next logical step for me personally. I was primarily selling to local shops, a heavy handful of regular customers, and people they would refer me to for custom invite and announcement orders. While I love selling through those venues I found that I was making products with a certain look targeted towards those specific clients' tastes. As an artist I wanted to grow, to learn, and to experiment with different methods of print making. I found Etsy one day and thought wow this could be my perfect outlet; a place where I could play, experiment, and share the items that I really loved. So far the response has been great!
2. Who/what inspires you?
Oh, gosh where don't I find inspiration from?! My background is in Anthropology and creative writing - which really means that words come naturally to me. There is this line from the novel The Awakening "oh to paint in colors rather than in words" that I often find myself coming back to. When I'm thinking of ideas for a new card I try to concentrate and think in terms of color first. What colors will I use? What am I drawn to today? Which colored envelope will pair nicely with that color? Then I start sketching and watch what comes out. I also find a lot of inspiration in the day to day; walks through the park, museums, design and style blogs, fashion magazines, fabric stores.
Thanks so much Kate!
