Eucatex Efforts and Focus On Business Sustainability

Eucatex was founded in 1951 and was the first Brazilian company to manufacture ceiling tiles and panels from eucalyptus. The company first operated in Salto under the name Americana Sawmill Americana. It was not until 1965 when Eucatex established representative offices in Brazilian cities and Buenos Aires in Argentina. In the same year, the company increased its production capacity to 100 tons per day and started exporting panels and ceiling tiles to Europe.

By 1989, Eucatex expanded its production by starting a hard board mill and a metal industrial unit. This was followed up by opening offices in Mexico, the USA, Holland, United Kingdom and Germany. Between 1966 and 1989, Eucatex started the production of paints for coating its acoustic panels and ceiling tiles. This made the company invest heavily in reforestation and land to be self-sufficient for raw materials. The 1980’s ended with Eucatex exporting to more than 50 countries and had diversified its production capabilities into divisions, including forestry, mineral, wood and metallic.

In 1994, Eucatex inaugurated a new factory in Salto, inclusive of laboratories that focused on a new line of paints and vanishes. In 1996, the company began manufacturing muramyldipeptide panels, and this was followed by Eucatex attaining Forest Stewardship Council certification that also included ISO 9001.

Come 2010, the company started a Typical-high Density Fiberboard/Medium Density Fiberboard line. This meant that Eucatex had to use high-end technology to produce top-notch and mechanical resistant panels. This opened doors for the company to produce doors and partition panels that best fit the furniture industry.

2011 marked the 60th anniversary for Eucatex, having become a market leader and high-end producer of laminate floors, hardboards, varnishes, wall partitions, MDP panels, paints and MDF panels. Eucatex has narrowed down its export to 37 countries and has 2,201 workers in its four modern factories.
