Dr. Mark Holterman Pediatric Surgeon and CEO Mariam Global Health

Dr. Mark Holterman is an experienced pediatric surgeon attending at the Advocate Christ Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Illinois at St. Francis Medical Centre. He has also been a surgery and pediatrics professor at the University of Illinois College of medicine since 2011. He has worked with numerous organization including American Academy of Pediatrics and Americas College of Surgeons. He carries out research on obesity, stem cell therapy, and medicine focusing on the rejuvenation of body cells.

Dr. Mark majored in biology at the Yale University and graduated with cum laude. He later earned a Ph.D. and MD from the University of Virginia. He finalized his residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences. He also did a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center through the University of Washington. He has previously served as attending pediatric surgeon at Rush University Medical Centre and as surgeon-in-chief at Advocate Christ Children’s Hospital. Dr. Mark is also a CEO at Mariam Global Health and supports the work of the International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam (IPSAC-VN), an organization that has worked towards providing sustainable and improved medication for the youngest residents of Vietnam. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) due to his commitment to the sophistication of medicine and finding a cure for the chronic health conditions such as diabetes. ADA and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles joined together to address the increasing rate of type 2 diabetes occurring in children and teenagers. The two organizations came up with a camp experience for teenagers and children from 8-16 years to teach them how to make healthier food choices. This camp experience aims at engaging the children in a range of after-school physical activities to lower the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Mark Holterman is part of the founders of Hanna Sunshine Foundations, an organization that aims at using cellular treatments for children with rare diseases. He has also won several awards including Innovative Research Award from the American Diabetes Association, an organization focused on funding research into diabetes preventive measures and cures.
